Madhya Pradesh Solar Parks Add 950 MW to India’s Clean Energy Capacity

Madhya Pradesh Solar Parks have reached a major milestone with the commissioning of 950 MW of large-scale solar power capacity. The development strengthens Madhya Pradesh’s growing position in India’s renewable energy sector and supports the country’s long-term transition towards cleaner and more reliable electricity generation.

On 30 June 2026, the 500 MW Neemuch Solar Park and the 450 MW Shajapur Solar Park were officially inaugurated. Together, these two major renewable energy projects represent approximately ₹2,080 crore in investment. The projects were developed under the Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited framework and are expected to make an important contribution to the state’s clean energy infrastructure.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, and State New and Renewable Energy Minister Rakesh Shukla.

The newly operational Neemuch and Shajapur solar parks will contribute clean electricity to the power system and help reduce dependence on conventional fossil fuel-based generation. The 500 MW Neemuch Solar Park is the larger of the two newly inaugurated facilities, while the Shajapur Solar Park contributes another 450 MW. Their combined capacity of 950 MW represents a substantial addition to Madhya Pradesh’s renewable energy portfolio.

The Morena project is significant because it combines solar power generation with a Battery Energy Storage System, commonly known as BESS. It is also an important step in Madhya Pradesh’s transition from conventional solar generation towards renewable energy systems capable of supplying power beyond daylight hours.

Solar plants normally generate maximum electricity during daytime periods. However, electricity demand often remains high during the evening, when solar generation falls. Battery storage can help address this challenge by storing excess electricity generated during sunny hours and supplying it to the grid when required.

Battery Energy Storage Systems are becoming increasingly important for the future of renewable energy. As more solar and wind capacity is connected to the electricity grid, storage technology can help balance differences between power generation and electricity demand.

The Morena Solar-Plus-BESS Project is expected to support improved grid reliability and more flexible renewable power delivery. The project represents a shift towards dispatchable clean energy, where renewable electricity can be stored and supplied according to grid requirements rather than being used only at the exact time it is generated.

This combination of solar power and battery storage can support evening peak demand, improve renewable energy utilisation, and reduce pressure on conventional power sources.

India is working towards achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based electricity capacity by 2030. Large renewable energy developments will play an essential role in reaching this target.

The addition of the Neemuch and Shajapur solar parks, together with progress on the Morena solar-plus-storage project, shows how Madhya Pradesh is combining large-scale renewable generation with emerging energy storage technologies.

Although detailed information regarding photovoltaic module models and expected annual energy generation from the newly commissioned parks has not yet been officially released, the scale of these projects highlights the growing importance of utility-grade solar infrastructure.
